Why Document An Athlete's Sports Career?

I am a parent. I buy wet weather gear so I can stay warm whilst standing on the side of hockey, rugby and football pitches fighting the elements of the weather thrown at me. I spend countless hours driving my kids and their friends to various sporting events around the country. And when I am asked: “why do I it?” My answer is always, “because I love them and I love the happiness sport brings to my children.”

As a parent, I understand the ups and downs of trying to watch my athlete excel at their sport of choice, while also trying to juggle documenting the moments as they happen. It is hard work! My phone can’t keep up with the pace they are moving, the ball is gone before my phone gets the picture and I end up feeling frustrated that I don’t have that moment AND I didn’t watch it happen because I was fighting with the technology.

I don’t bring my big cameras out with me all the time because I am there to watch the moment. It makes a living memory of it in my brain. But by the time we get to the end of the season, I do wish I had taken the time to capture my child in action. Frozen in a dive across the goal or a driving pass to a teammate. These pictures represent the evolution of how they are changing as an athlete. As an individual. This is their growing up.

Besides being a full-time wedding photographer, I have been lucky enough to also be a sports photographer. I specialise in documenting lifestyle photography in your chosen sport. From kitting up, to saves, passes and sweat. I will be there to document the session while you as a parent watch it unfold.

I have had the opportunity to win a national Canon sports competition during World Rugby in 2015. I studied sports photography under the guidance of a professional Getty’s sports photographer Gillian Finney to understand the nature of sports photography and capturing the moment creatively.
